Another Successful Annual Conference

IIPPE in Brief Issue No. 12 IPPE’s 5th International Conference in Political Economy that took place 16-18 September 2014 at was a great success. The University of Naples L’Orientale hosted some 260 participants from 38 different countries and 5 continents. A diverse range of papers were presented in 71 Panels that ran across the 3 days of the conference. Each day of the conference concluded with a plenary session pertaining to the nature and prospects of the crisis and the possibilities of alternatives. Global Capitalism: Selected Essays

The essays in this book, written between 1983 and 2011, examine developments in global capitalism in recent decades from a socialist standpoint. Running through them all is a consistent understanding based on Marx’s critique of political economy: capitalism seen as a global system, with dynamics shaped by the structural opposition between capital and labour, rather than between states and markets.

Call for new members of the FEPS Young Academics Network

The FEPS Young Academics Network was established in March 2009 with an aim to gather promising progressive PhD candidates and young PhD researchers ready to use their academic experience in a debate about the Next Europe. Following its very successful Training Workshop in Naples in September, the International Initiative for the Promotion of Political Economy (IIPPE) has decided to repeat the Workshop on Wednesday 5 November 2014 at the Vernon Square campus of the School of Oriental and African Studies in London from 9.45am to 5pm. Social Programme Registration

For the three days following the Fifth Annual Conference in Political Economy, IIPPE has organised a social programme with the idea to provide a space where people can meet and discuss their research in a relaxed informal environment. A meeting can mean sharing feedback and new insights and result in future research collaboration. The social programme will include trips to the archaeological site in Pompeii, to Procida, one of the islands of the Gulf surrounding Naples, and the Vesuvius crater.
