[CFP] Conference 2018 – Agrarian Change and Social Reproduction Working Groups

2018 IIPPE Annual Conference
The State of Capitalism and the State of Political Economy
September 12-14, 2018, University of Pula, Croatia
Joint Call for Papers from the Agrarian Change and Social Reproduction Working Groups

The Agrarian Change and Social Reproduction Working Groups invite you to submit proposals for individual papers, themed panels or streams of panels related to our lines of inquiry. These may include theoretical and empirical contributions that focus primarily on the deployment of a social reproduction lens to consider agrarian questions. During previous IIPPE conferences many contributions to the Agrarian Change WG have utilised a social reproduction framework or have investigated questions of gender along with other axes of inequality in relation to agrarian questions. At the Pula conference our intention is to bring such researchers together allowing us to explore theoretical and methodological challenges and synergies. In this spirit, we welcome contributions on the following themes (theoretical as well as empirically grounded research on any of the following issues are welcome):

  • The relationship between the productive and reproductive sphere in agrarian questions
  • Interactions between markets, states and families in the rural South
  • Gender and policy change in the agricultural sector
  • ‘Doing gender’ in research on agrarian change: methodological questions and issues
  • The struggle for social reproduction in rural areas
  • Interactions of gender, labour and class in the rural economy
  • Debating the feminization of labour in agriculture
  • Gender, rural social movements and capitalism
  • Rural-urban migration through a gender lens
  • Gendered commodity chains/ production networks
  • Debating gender and land reform/ rights under global capitalism
  • The political economy of time and time-use in the rural economy
  • Gender and rural poverty

We encourage the submission of panel proposals (consisting of up to four presentations) as an opportunity to showcase the work of study groups in greater depth than is possible in single presentations.

Papers and panel proposals can be submitted on iippe.org by 15 March 2018, ticking the Social Reproduction and/or Agrarian Change Working Groups as part of your submission.

    Hi Hannah,
This is Benu. Greetings from India. I was browsing the papers relating to Agrarian studies and I came across this flyer on the conference. I am keen at join it to understand the issues of Agrarian change since I am also an avid learner in this field and I have spent almost three decades in the field of agriculture and rural development thru my association with an apex development bank, NABARD.(www.nabard.org) in India. My doctoral work was also on Land Question. I will appreciate if you could send me the details of the agenda and the panelists who will be discussing on the chosen themes.
    Thanks and regards,
    Benu,Bengaluru, India.
