PE Journals
After the 2023 annual conference in Madrid, IIPPE undertook two projects to support our members in getting their articles published. Many researchers, and especially young ones, have a feeling that there are a very limited number of journals that will publish research in political economy. Connected to that, if they get turned down by one of those journals, they then think that they have few alternative options to get their work published. Both of these ideas are false.
In line with IIPPE’s mission of promoting the development and dissemination of political economy, here we present the results of those two simple IIPPE projects designed to aid in finding out more about journals that will publish political economy research.
The first project lists 62 journals that will publish political economy research of various types, with descriptions of what they are interested in. While some of the descriptions come from correspondence with the journals, most are taken from their websites. While clearly any researcher could find all this material themselves, this greatly simplifies and reduces the time needed for looking into all of them in order to find the journals that are the best fits for your type of work. It also helps to make people aware of journals that they might not have known about. The name of each journal is a link to its home page for looking further at the specifics for submitting to the journals that seem the best fits for your work.
The second project is a result of IIPPE sending a questionnaire to its members about journals that they have some connection to (editorial boards, etc.). We got 43 responses. First, a number of the journals are different ones from those in the first project. Second and beyond that, the information here is “deeper” in two senses. On the one hand, it just gives more information about the journals besides their aims and interests, information that comes from an IIPPE colleague giving information on a journal they are particularly familiar with. On the other hand and connected to that, a number of these responding IIPPE members indicated that they would be happy to talk to other IIPPE members who are considering publishing in their journal to answer any questions, and listed their emails here so they could be contacted.
With that, here is the information from these two IIPPE projects to make it easier for our members to find an appropriate journal for publishing their research.
